the last week....

This week was full of emotions... This week consisted of motivating advance ceramic students to finish their projects that I am documenting for the TPA.  The week also consisted of critiques, snow days, an observation, laughter and some hard goodbyes.  It was an honor working with all the students who I was lucky to teach and I was amazed with some of the transformations I witnessed.  I would endlessly write about the wonderful teaching moments I shared with Ms. Wager and her students but I'd rather visually share these memories by posting photos.  Below are images of Advance Ceramic students working on their projects and a few images depicting our celebrations.  I can't thank the loving teachers and wonderful students from Averill Park for making my student teaching such a phenomenal experience.

Advance Ceramics: Week 14

The students have been AMAZING and have been working at a fast pace.  The students are really feeling the heat of a deadline but they are finely executing their projects.  Once again, these students have blown me out of the water with how creative and sophisticated their projects are.  I can also see their personalities and artistic styles emerging with these projects.  I am very proud of these students because it definitely is a challenge to create something beautiful out of clay in a short period of time.  Most of the students are finished working with clay and are now waiting for their pieces to be fired.  Some students have already started glazing their projects (!!!!!!) and it looks like a lot of the projects will be done for the critique on Friday! Below are pictures of the students working on their pieces--enjoy!

Advance Ceramics: Week 13

Students are busy working away on my lesson plan for the TPA; "Line in Real Life".  Students were face with a challenging project of creating Applied Art (functional objects with an artistic flair). Students are creating open coiled bowls that depict real life images from their every day lives.  Some of the students have incorporated lines from crosses, spider webs, metal gates, roots, hair, railroad tracks, headphones, etc.  I'm loving the students' creativity and they are working so well under the strict deadline.  I am very pleased to see how efficient the students are with the limited amount of time they have to finish their projects.  Below are examples of students' work in progress--I can't wait to see their finished projects!

Advance Ceramics: Week 12

Though it was the last week of school for the great year of 2012 the students continued to push through and work away like elves in Santa's workshop.  The Advance Ceramic students have been angels and have really pushed themselves in terms of creativity and execution with their portrait vessels and independent studies projects.  Instead of blabbering about what they have been making I'd rather visually educate all of you wonderful readers about what the students have been creating! ENJOY! (FYI all students and their parents have signed release waivers so I can publish their beautiful faces and artwork!)

To the left we can see Adam is creating an organic ceramic piece which is constructed by using the coil technique.
To the right we have Ms. Hailey who is working on her fun portrait vessel!
To the left is Kristina who is taking the time to finalize her portrait vessel that consists of two faces that can be displayed up-side-down or right-side-up.  Either way displayed, there will be a face looking at you!
To the right we have Madison who is working on her Asian inspired portrait vessel.  Madison is very in touched with her Asian heritage and background.
To the left is Mary working on her independent study which is a coiled bowl!
To the right is the lovely Ms. Mia who is working on her Madusa inspired portrait vessel that also has two faces incorporated in it!  Mia had an "oops" while initially creating the vessel which turned into a great happy mistake and brings her piece to a whole new level!
To the left are two wonderful students, Steliana and Shannon.  These two keep each other in check and have lots of fun in class.  Steliana is working on her independent study project and Shannon is glazing her portrait vessel with a gradient of blue glazes.
To the right we have Ms. Wager advising Madison with her portrait vessel.  Oh, the wise words by Ms. Wager...
To the left we have Ms. Zara working on her hooded portrait vessel.  To state her vessel is beautiful is a complete understatement.  In the background is Kristina working hard!
To the right is another image of Zara working on her amazing vessel.  Zara is using different colors of teal, blue and black in her vessel! I can not wait to see how it comes out!
